Talents
Earning & spending points
Your first talent point arrives at level 20 (the same moment you choose your specialization), and you keep earning them as you climb, up to a lifetime total of 20 points. Each point buys one rank, so a finished character has 20 ranks to spread across their spec's 9 talents — enough to go tall on a few signature talents or broad across many.
Note
Passive vs. active talents
There are two ways a talent affects your idle combat:
- Passive talents fold straight into your stats and apply every tick — more damage, more mitigation, better resists, or conditional bonuses.
- Active talents resolve inside each encounter through an action economy: one "attack-slot" talent can replace your basic attack with something stronger (a burst like Smite), while "extra" effects fire alongside it (a heal, a summon, a defensive trigger). You never press a button — your chosen build determines what fires and when.
Talent categories & the Descent
Every talent belongs to one of three categories — survivability, damage, or sustain. This matters beyond flavor: the daily Descent dungeon reads your party's category spread and pays a synergy bonus for balanced groups. Your talent choices are also your contribution to a party's synergy.
